The Flower Bin
hosted a
Giant Pumpkin Contest
October 1, 2011
Humongous or Huge is the best way to describe the pumpkins that entered this contest. Pumpkins were weighed and judged by the rules set forth by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, which oversees and sanctions the results for the contest.
Pete Mohr of Longmont continued his streak of three consecutive wins with his winning pumpkin. This year giant weighed 922 lbs.
Congrats Pete!
Skyler Holland was the winning entry in the Children's Division. He is very proud of his 299 lb winner. We believe he should start carving it now to be sure it is completed by Halloween. Enjoy Skyler!
Christmas Begins at The Flower Bin
The Flower Bin will be hosting their Annual “Christmas Begins at The Flower Bin” open house. This event will be held November 25, 26 and 27. This event is free to the public.
Live entertainment will be Saturday and Sunday:
Dr. Kathy B. Moore has been a professor at UNC in Greeley for more than 30 years, where she has taught music theory and harp. She is the principal harpist in the Greeley Philharmonic. In addition, she has written several harp books and arrangements. She has also recorded CD’s with and for Jackson Berkey, keyboardist with Mannheim Steamroller. She will perform by playing the harp on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.
Jeffrey Rogers, a musician from the age of seven, has played guitar in a local Rock ‘n Roll band in Junior High School. Growing up in Boulder in the 60’s he became interested in Indian Music. In 1974, Jeffrey bought a set of table drums. Seven years later he became a student of Ustad Alla Rakha, one of the greatest masters of these drums. Four years later Jeffrey built his first Hammered Dulcimer from a kit and began to learn how to play it. Jeffrey has performed at the Renaissance Festival and on recordings for Sounds True. This is his 19th year playing at The Flower Bin. He will perform by playing the Hammered Dulcimer on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The Flower Bin will feature 27 varieties of Flower Bin Grown Poinsettias. We also will have available a complete assortment of cut Christmas trees, live trees and fresh garland, wreaths and greenery. The gift house will have all you need for your Christmas décor and gifts. Cookies and Cider will be served throughout the open house.
